April 8, 2013 Update:
I decided to continue with my 365 Project for a second year but, I removed the limitation of only posting photos using a specific camera or lens. There’s been a lot more freedom with this year’s 365 Project, especially being able to post pics from my iPhone using the WordPress app. My latest shutterbug acquisition has been a Nikon D7000 and 85mm/1.4 prime lens. Actually, it was a very generous christmas present from my hubby. 🙂 I’m still learning how to use both the D7000 and 85mm lens and probably the DISADVANTAGE of this year’s 365 Project is that I find myself posting pics from my iPhone A LOT, and I’m not practicing with my new gear. I’ll get there though. I have to admit though, that the other challenge of last year’s 365 project was posting pics SOOC (straight out of the camera.) I think that actually improved my photography skills A LOT! But, so many times I wanted to bump up my photos so having the freedom to post-process has been fun too. I’m going to play around with that though. Another unexpected skill I’ve gained is just blogging, in general. Also, I’ve become pretty proficient at using WordPress. Back to photography… I still believe that getting great pics right, straight out of the camera, is an effective way to get to know your camera, glass, and improve shutterbug skills. I’m so glad I made that part of my 365 Project challenge last year, since that was probably the most effective teaching aspect of last year’s project. Well, thanks for stopping by and watching me evolve and grow on my shutterbug journey!
January 2012:
Because I was frustrated with spending way more time post-processing my photos, compared to my time spent taking photos, I decided to dedicate my 365 photo project to untouched, straight out of the camera captures. I also specifically chose to use only my 50mm lens to help me appreciate the photos I can get from the ONE fixed, prime lens I own, instead of constantly having lens-envy. I want to improve my photog skills using this lens and, in theory, maybe this will curb my appetite for that 35mm or 24mm lens that makes me drool!

What day of the year is it anyway?
Because I often lose track of the actual number day of the year (eg. today, April 8 is the 98th day of the year), I refer to this page with the Julian date calendar. And, here’s the chart from that page in case you’re lost and need to figure out what day you’re on for your own 365 project!

Today I saw your photos for the first time … Bravo! They’re beautiful and you show a great sensitivity in your style. I really enjoyed looking at your images.
I have been using a D70 for years and just ordered a “refurbished” D5000 and am looking forward to the “upgrade”. You blog is inspirational ,.. hopefully I’ll find some time for more “creative” photographic pursuits. I shoot mainly birds, wildlife, scenics and boats!
Lenswise, if you are thinking of a long zoom, go for the Nikkor 70-300 ED IF. It’s definitely superior (and twice $$$) to the cheaper 55-300. I have them both.
Keep going with the project, you’re doing great!
