365 Project – 233: Ruby Beach playdate (August 21, 2013)

Olympic National Park boasts gorgeous beaches on the northwestern coast of Washington state but, not all have sandy beaches like Ruby Beach. It’s an easy stroll from the parking lot and if you go left (south), there’s a big stretch of fine sand, as opposed to the more typical coarse sand or rocks found on many ONP beaches. Time it at low tide to enjoy tidepooling, and plan on staying late to catch a stunning sunset. Ruby Beach is a gem we often enjoy with our family and friends. 🙂

p.s. For our family, a few of our other favorite fine sandy beaches are Shi Shi Beach and Third Beach but, they’re not as accessible as Ruby Beach. In comparison, Rialto Beach is absolutely gorgeous and has amazing tidepooling and the famous “hole in the wall”, but, the beach is strewn with rocks and it’s often very windy and thus, colder. Rialto is also a favorite for our family but, if we’re in the mood for swimming and making sand castles, we opt for Ruby Beach or Third Beach. 🙂

Yup, the ocean is “warm” for these Pacific Northwest girls! 🙂

Day 7 – New Jersey (Jersey Shore – Point Pleasant Beach)

Summer heat, sandy beach, crashing waves, the warm Atlantic Ocean and Jenkinson’s Boardwalk all made for a treat for the kids and good people watching. The waves were a bit rough for boogie boarding for the kids but, they still had a blast in the sand and surf. Having umbrellas gave us the shade we needed to spend a full day at the beach. The frozen custard at Kohr’s was a favorite tasty stop…TWICE! And, the rides were a hit with the kids. It was a fun day at the Jersey Shore…at Point Pleasant Beach. The only thing we forgot to do was drive by Snooki’s house in Seaside Heights and take a photo. Next time… HA!!

365 Project – 141: “Wait…wait…” – catching reflections in wet sand (May 18, 2012)

Shutter Speed: 1/500, Aperture: F/16, ISO: 400

Paco is obsessed with sticks…and water. I absolutely LOOOOOVE this shot of my hubby getting Paco to “wait…wait…” before launching that stick into the waves. That reflection in the wet sand of both of them, and Paco in his pointer pose looking up so eagerly at his owner…precious. 🙂

365 Project – 46 : Sistas from different muthas (February 15, 2012)

Being a parent of an only child, not by choice but, by circumstance, I often feel guilty and saddened about not giving my daughter a sibling. As much as my mind knows the reasons, and even the benefits of our situation, my heart still hasn’t totally wrapped itself around having a family with an only child. Finding a BFF where both the kids and parents get along has been an incredible blessing to our family. For this, I am wholeheartedly grateful. 🙂

365 Project – 45 : I got lei’d for Valentine’s Day! ;) (February 14, 2012)

Shutter Speed: 1/640, Aperture: F3.5, ISO: 100

My thoughtful hubby is working on the opposite part of the planet, so no romantic Valentine’s date for us today but, he had fresh flower leis delivered to our condo, for me and my daughter. So, so sweeeet! 🙂 This gorgeous lei was made entirely of purple and white orchids, which happen to be my favorite flower. I had actually never had a fresh flower lei, only those plastic ones at some hula-themed party. How they crafted those orchids into this lei is amazing. I thanked him for the “lei”…to which of course when I see him next he is looking forward to his…well, enough said! 😉 Happy Valentine’s Day from Hawaii!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Exposure: 1/50 ISO: 400 Aperture: f/4.5 Lens: 18-55mm zoom

I took this photo at Dungeness Spit (Sequim, WA) a few months ago and thought I’d save it for my Valentine’s Day post. But, I’m in Hawaii now so I’ll work on posting a tropical heartilicious photo lay-tah. 😉
