365 Project – 59 : Gritty black and white – shooting monochrome with my Nikon D5000 (February 28, 2012)

Shutter Speed: 1/50, Aperture: F/6.3, ISO: 200, MC (monochrome) setting

I was in the mood to attempt another black and white shot, straight out of the camera, using the monochrome (MC) setting in my D5000. I thought I’d find some contrast using the leftover snow in our backyard but, instead I honed in on the texture and grittiness of this moss (lichen?) growing out of our old, splintery picnic table. Without post-processing, I’m forced to “see” contrast, texture and all those elements that make for a good black and white photo. I’m gonna’ keep working on it! 🙂

Wow! Looks amazing. At first I thought this picture looks like it was taken somewhere in the forest or old town that no one lives there anymore, but it turns out it was in your backyard. 😀 pretty cool.
