365 Project – 59 : Gritty black and white – shooting monochrome with my Nikon D5000 (February 28, 2012)

Shutter Speed: 1/50, Aperture: F/6.3, ISO: 200, MC (monochrome) setting

I was in the mood to attempt another black and white shot, straight out of the camera, using the monochrome (MC) setting in my D5000. I thought I’d find some contrast using the leftover snow in our backyard but, instead I honed in on the texture and grittiness of this moss (lichen?) growing out of our old, splintery picnic table. Without post-processing, I’m forced to “see” contrast, texture and all those elements that make for a good black and white photo. I’m gonna’ keep working on it! πŸ™‚

Wow! Looks amazing. At first I thought this picture looks like it was taken somewhere in the forest or old town that no one lives there anymore, but it turns out it was in your backyard. πŸ˜€ pretty cool.
