365 Project – 43: Green sea turtle basking at Laniakea Beach (February 12, 2012)

Shutter Speed: 1/800, Aperture: F4.5, ISO: 100

In anticipation of this Hawaii vacay, our girls were probably most looking forward to seeing turtles. During past visits I had been fortunate to always see turtles at Laniakea Beach, also called Turtle Beach on the North Shore of Oahu, and once again, we lucked out and the girls got to meet Miss Olivia-Dawn, a ~40 year old female green sea turtle. We watched other turtles, big and small, frolicking in the waves, while eating our burritos from Carol’s burrito stand at the tiny, but sweet, Saturday country market at the Sunset Elementary School. The “pipeline” and “sunset” burritos were da bomb; perfect for a substantial meal on the go and cheap “ono grinds.” Gotta’ get into da island groove, eat where the locals “mek plate” and learn a little pidgin, yeah? Oh, yeah…da island life is good! 😉
